HORSES OF THE WEEK
Emma Chapman's Equestrian Journey
Emma Chapman has carved out a distinguished position as a Western riding instructor and horse trainer in the UK, particularly excelling in the rehabilitation of former racehorses. Her achievements, bolstered by meticulously crafted nutrition programmes including EquiNectar®, highlight the vital role of comprehensive equine care in achieving success.
Her journey with EquiNectar® commenced when working with a particularly difficult case - an ex-racing horse plagued by recurring impaction colic. Following the introduction of EquiNectar® to the horse's diet, Chapman observed remarkable improvement, noting the horse "began flourishing and never looked back." This success prompted her to implement the supplement throughout her yard, with virtually all horses receiving EquiNectar®, yielding demonstrable benefits.
A particularly noteworthy transformation occurred with Alpha Delphini, a distinguished racehorse celebrated for clinching both the Beverly Bullet and the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes in 2018. Upon arriving for retraining, despite his exceptional intelligence, Alpha grappled with anxiety issues that impeded his ability to relax and concentrate. Initially, routine tasks such as changing rugs and tacking up triggered considerable stress, whilst his movement became stilted in unfamiliar settings.
After beginning Alpha Delphini on EquiNectar® in December 2023, notable improvements emerged. Chapman observed increased hay consumption and thorough feed consumption as initial breakthroughs. The benefits extended beyond nutrition, as he maintained robust condition through winter without excessive concentrated feed, whilst his overall temperament improved markedly.
Midnight Robbery, an 11-year-old ex-racing gelding, presents another compelling case. Despite possessing an excellent disposition, his transition to Western disciplines presented challenges. Initial concerns included loose stools, heightened sensitivity, a lacklustre coat, and stable-related stress. After confirming the absence of ulcers through scoping, Chapman introduced EquiNectar®, leading to significant improvements in his condition and demeanour.
Chapman's expertise extends to other breeds, as demonstrated by her work with Chilly, an 8-year-old American Quarter Horse mare. Initially presenting with behavioural challenges including spookiness and tension, Chilly underwent a remarkable transformation after beginning EquiNectar® in spring 2023, developing into a calmer, more responsive mount.
Dakota Gun, a three-year-old American Paint mare bred and trained by Chapman, represents another success story. Following the introduction of EquiNectar® in January 2023 to address winter weight management, the mare demonstrated improved temperament and achieved Supreme Champion status in paint halter classes at her debut show.
Chapman's role in the equestrian community continues to grow as Western riding gains international popularity. Her comprehensive approach, combining expert training with strategic nutrition, exemplifies how proper horse care can optimise performance across all equestrian disciplines. Her success stories underscore the crucial role of thorough nutrition in achieving excellence in equestrian pursuits.
