Horse of the Week – BAMBI

HORSE OF THE WEEK

BAMBI

"Coach House "Bambi" is an American Few Spot Miniature mare, standing at 7.5 hands (30 inches) and aged 13 years.

Bambi fulfils three roles: she pulls carriages for events and drives, visits care homes, schools, and hospices, and, most importantly, brings joy and smiles to people.

We have been her proud owners since she was a yearling. Initially purchased as a mascot for our riding school, Bambi has grown to be much more. She boasts a wonderful temperament. However, she has experienced recurrent colic-like symptoms, which were challenging to diagnose. We eventually linked these episodes to the weather pattern of prolonged droughts followed by rain. Despite reducing her grazing time, the episodes persisted with varying severity. Initially, our vet suspected laminitis, which is common among Shetlands, but this was not the case with Bambi. American miniatures, unlike Shetland ponies, tend to have a different digestive system less prone to laminitis. We've experimented with numerous feeds and gut balancers, which only marginally alleviated the issue. Then, a friend recommended EquiNectar, having noticed the similarity between the product's description and what we were seeing with Bambi. Since starting on EquiNectar a couple of months ago, we've modified her feed regime and daily management. Bambi has been symptom-free, eagerly consuming her new diet. This has been a miraculous relief, and we are incredibly grateful. Thank you so much."
