Horse of the Week – MAISIE #2

HORSE OF THE WEEK

MAISIE #2

This is our second Horse of Week named Maisie, so please meet Maisie #2:

"Last winter, Maisie lost her longtime field companion and subsequently suffered a severe outbreak of gastric ulcers. This resulted in significant weight and muscle loss, leaving her far from her usual self. Although she was treated and cleared by the vets—which was fantastic news—by the end of September 2023, I sensed that something was still amiss.

Maisie became increasingly irritable when I touched her stomach or flank area, exhibited tail swishing, resisted moving forward under my guidance, and occasionally bucked during canter requests in our dressage tests. Despite thorough checks by the physiotherapist, dentist, and saddle fitter, her condition didn't improve. It seemed as though she still had ulcers, yet I knew that wasn't the case.

My search for answers led me to discover the complexities of hindgut disease in horses. I hadn't realized how factors like haylage, grass, and wormers could disrupt the gut microbiome, causing discomfort—a condition not detectable by scoping. The symptoms of hindgut disease mirrored Maisie's exactly. This discovery brought me to EquiNectar. Typically skeptical about supplements, I delved into extensive research and was convinced by the studies to give it a try. Within just two weeks of starting EquiNectar, I noticed a significant improvement in Maisie's condition.

As of February 2024, with careful dietary management and the addition of EquiNectar, Maisie has transformed into a completely different horse—no longer grumpy when I touch her belly, no tail swishing while riding, and she moves forward beautifully.

I had always felt as though we were hitting a plateau in our training, unable to progress beyond a certain level. I'm thrilled to report that Maisie recently advanced to elementary level in her last show and performed exceptionally well. More importantly, she's much happier, content, and relaxed, looking incredible. The team at Tharos has been incredibly supportive and helpful from the moment I decided to try EquiNectar, offering support and regular check-ins. They are always available via email or phone for advice."
