"Leider haben wir die schlimmsten Erfahrungen mit Gaskoliken gemacht. Unsere Stute MiMi hatte mehrere Male eine Blähungskolik, bis sie im März 2021 einen besonders schlimmen Anfall hatte, der dazu führte, dass sie in unsere örtliche Pferdeklinik eingeliefert wurde. Es war nicht das erste Mal, dass sie dort war, bei den vorherigen Gelegenheiten wurde sie überwacht und kam dann nach Hause, aber dieses Mal war es anders, nach den Tests und Scans wurde uns geraten, dass sie eingeschläfert werden müsste, wenn wir sie nicht operieren würden. Bei der Operation wurde eine 720° (doppelte) Verdrehung in ihrem Darm festgestellt. Erstaunlicherweise funktionierte ihr gesamter Darm noch, und es wurde nichts entfernt.
MiMi wasn't expected to make it (I later read in an information leaflet from Rossdales that the greater the amount of twisting, the lower the survival rate: <180° = good prognosis, 180°–270° = fair prognosis, >270° = poor prognosis), but against the odds she started eating and soon after was well enough to come home. For a while her recovery progressed well, but then the colic returned. We tried so many supplements, I even created a spreadsheet with all the gut supplements on the market at the time to try and avoid repeating the same ingredients but nothing seemed to help, things didn't improve, they actually got worse. We thought it may be the grass so tried keeping her inside, although it worked for a while, again the colic returned. By this time we were starting to give up hope of a solution and thinking that the kindest thing would be to put her to sleep. All through this time I kept pestering our vets for help, and pretty much every vet in our practice had been to see MiMi, to the point that when I called anyone who answered the phone knew who we were. Finally, our vet practice put us in touch with a vet specialising in horse nutrition, and one of the supplements she recommended was EquiNectar. We slowly introduced MiMi to it, and as the vet had advised that the EquiNectar would also help her tolerate changes in grass we also started to turn her out again.
Das war im Januar 2022. Seitdem hatte MiMi keine weiteren Koliken mehr. Allmählich änderte sich ihr Verhalten, sie ist so viel glücklicher am Boden und reitbarer geworden, sogar besser als vor der Kolik. Das Beste von allem ist, dass sie wieder Spaß am Springen hat, sie hat sich enorm verbessert, ist viel vorsichtiger im Parcours geworden und ist jetzt bereit, auf Discovery-Niveau aufzusteigen. Es hat lange gedauert, bis wir dort angekommen sind, wo wir jetzt sind, und ich bin sicher, dass EquiNectar eine wesentliche Rolle dabei gespielt hat, dass MiMi ein normales, kolikfreies Leben führen kann, und wir hoffen sehr, dass das so weitergeht.
